A customer sees a video, gets curious, wants to buy. Today, in Sweden, the path looks like this: tap the profile, find the link in bio, load an external site, find the product again, check out. Every step loses buyers.
In the US, the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, among others, that detour is already gone. TikTok Shop puts the checkout inside the app: the purchase happens in the video or mid live stream. Sweden is not among those countries. How the service works, from purchase to payout, is covered in What is TikTok Shop?
The current status, without the hype
Here is what we know as of 15 October 2026:
- TikTok Shop is live in 13 EU countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Ireland, according to TikTok Shop’s EU creator e-commerce eligibility policy (3 September 2026). TikTok’s DSA transparency report of 31 August 2026 says eight of them opened on 15 June 2026. It is also live in the UK and the US, among others. Every country, and the difference between buyer and seller markets, is in our list of where TikTok Shop is available.
- TikTok Shop does not accept sellers registered in Sweden, and no Nordic country is on the country lists in TikTok Shop’s EU policies. The Swedish trade publication Market reported on 14 April 2026 that TikTok Shop is coming to the Nordics, without naming a source, a date or Sweden, and TikTok has not confirmed it.
- Selling through TikTok Shop requires a business in a country where TikTok accepts local sellers. TikTok’s EU seller registration policy (21 September 2026) accepts local sellers in eight countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain. A Swedish company cannot sell through it directly. As a rule, it needs a business incorporated in one of those countries, for example Germany, with a warehouse there and shipping and returns handled within the country. For most businesses, the person representing the business also needs an EU-issued ID and a residential address in the country; TikTok can make exceptions for larger enterprises. Sole traders can register too, with the same requirements for an address, warehouse and returns in the country. What that takes in practice is covered in Selling on TikTok Shop in Germany from Sweden.
- Instagram Shopping works differently: the purchase happens on your own website. How TikTok Shop and Instagram Shopping differ.
- No official date is confirmed. Anyone promising you an exact launch day is guessing.
That last point matters. This is not an article about chasing a trend. It is about being ready if and when the door opens, so that you do not have to start from zero.
Why it pays to prepare
If TikTok Shop opens in a market, the sellers who have not prepared all start building at once. A store that is already in order can skip that stage.
In practice, TikTok has an official app for Shopify that syncs the Shopify product catalogue to TikTok, so a store built in Shopify has a catalogue that can sync once TikTok’s app supports Swedish stores, and the product photos are already done. On top of that comes TikTok’s own seller registration, which in the EU currently requires a business incorporated in the registration country (or a sole trader with an address there), a warehouse, shipping and returns there, an EU-issued ID and an EU bank account. Integration support also lags behind TikTok’s launches. According to Shopify, the TikTok Shop features only work for stores in ten countries (checked 15 October 2026), and none of the eight countries where TikTok Shop opened in June 2026, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Austria, is on that list.
Stores without their own platform, or locked into a marketplace, are left at the starting line: structuring product data, producing photos, sorting out payments. That work takes weeks or months.
Live selling: a format you can practise now
Live streams are a central part of TikTok Shop. A host shows products live, viewers ask questions, and purchases happen in the app while the stream runs. TikTok’s UK newsroom says TikTok Shop LIVE has grown 55 per cent year on year, with more than 6,000 LIVE sessions a day in the UK (TikTok, 4 August 2026).
Live selling can also be practised now, without TikTok Shop. The broadcast and the format work today; only the checkout still goes through your own store. To go live you need to be at least 18 and have at least 1,000 followers, according to TikTok’s Help Centre (checked 14 October 2026), and the follower requirement varies by region. Sellers who start streaming now build an audience, habits and routine, and have them in place if and when the checkout moves into the app.
How to prepare, in the right order
- Own store, own platform. A store you control, with your design and your customer data, for example in Shopify. Not only a profile on someone else’s marketplace.
- A clean product catalogue. Names, photos, prices and variants in order. The catalogue is what syncs to TikTok and becomes what the customer sees in the app.
- Start with video. Short product clips and ideally test streams. The format is the craft, and it takes longer to learn than the technology.
- Skip the rest for now. Ad packages, “TikTok Shop guarantees” and prepaid launch services for a market that has not opened are money wasted.
What we build for our clients
We build fully custom online shops on Shopify: your design on the outside, Shopify’s checkout, VAT handling and security on the inside, and you own the account, the domain and the customer data. For example, we have built a flagship store of this kind for a Swedish artist, now live, with the product catalogue structured so it can sync to TikTok Shop if and when the service opens in Sweden. You will also need TikTok’s own seller registration, and Shopify has to offer TikTok Shop in the country.
If you want a store that sells today and is prepared if TikTok Shop opens, we build it. And if you want to get started with short-form video and live streaming now, get in touch.
Frequently asked questions
Is TikTok Shop available in Sweden?
No. As of 15 October 2026, TikTok Shop is not open in Sweden. Sweden is missing from the country lists in TikTok Shop’s EU policies, and TikTok has not announced a date. In Europe it is live in 13 EU countries and the UK, none of them Nordic. As a rule, selling requires a business incorporated in one of the eight EU countries where TikTok accepts local sellers, such as a German company, or a sole trader with an address there, plus a warehouse, shipping and returns in that country.
Is there a launch date for TikTok Shop in Sweden?
No official date. As of 15 October 2026, TikTok had not announced a launch in Sweden or the rest of the Nordics. The Swedish trade publication Market reported on 14 April 2026 that TikTok Shop is coming to the Nordics, without naming a source, a date or Sweden; TikTok has not confirmed it. Launch windows quoted by agencies are their own forecasts. Plan for readiness rather than a date.
What is TikTok Shop?
TikTok Shop is TikTok’s built-in store: products can be bought directly inside the app, in videos, in live streams and on a shop tab, without the customer ever leaving TikTok. In markets where TikTok Shop has launched, checkout happens in the app instead of via a link in bio to an external store.
Does Shopify work with TikTok Shop?
Yes, where Shopify offers TikTok Shop. TikTok’s official app for Shopify syncs your product catalogue to TikTok, but according to Shopify the TikTok Shop features only work for stores in ten countries, and Sweden is not one of them (checked 15 October 2026). In the EU, TikTok’s own seller registration comes on top of that: a business incorporated in the registration country (or a sole trader with an address there), a warehouse and returns there, an EU-issued ID and an EU bank account.
What is live selling?
Live selling, or live shopping, is selling in a live broadcast: a host shows products, viewers ask questions and buy during the stream. In TikTok Shop markets the purchase happens inside the app while the stream is running. TikTok’s UK newsroom says TikTok Shop LIVE has grown 55 per cent year on year, with more than 6,000 LIVE sessions a day in the UK (4 August 2026).
How do I prepare my store for TikTok Shop?
Four steps: your own store on your own platform, for example Shopify, which has an official TikTok app; a clean product catalogue with photos, prices and variants in order; a start on short-form video; and holding off on ad packages and prepaid launch services until the market opens.
